Great Falls, SC – Super Independent Baseball has announced that current Saint Paul Saint Tony Mansolino will serve as a field manager in the 2009 SIB Fall League. Mansolino, a graduate of Vanderbilt University, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2005 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft.
Mansolino played three years in the minor leagues within the Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies organizations, making it as high as double-A with the Reading Phillies in 2008.
“Tony is exactly the kind of high character baseball guy we are looking for in the SIB Fall League,” said SIB President Jamie Toole. “Tony has gone through the experience of being drafted and working his way up through a Major League organizations’ minor league system. He has extensive connections throughout professional baseball and our Fall League Players will benefit from their time spent with Tony Mansolino.”
"I am eager for September 20th to arrive. SIB is a first class operation and is going the produce a first class fall league. Nearly 90 players are going to get their first taste of what being a professional baseball player is all about. I can't wait to role up my sleeves and help my players reach their ultimate goal of signing a contract with an affiliated or independent professional baseball club," stated Mansolino.
The Fall League will consist of a player combine, a player draft, an 18 game regular season, and a college World Series style playoff. Managers for the fall league will include current independent professional baseball managers, pitching coaches, and hitting instructors as well as current MLB associate scouts.
